Farewell to A Building, the DongDongGuan Project

洞洞館是台灣大學校園內一棟混合包浩斯與中國建築元素的歷史建築,由葛羅培斯的學生張肇康在六零年代設計建造。主要作為展示美國當年農業科技發展成果,以及做為台灣大學的系所空間。藝術家曾於這兩棟大樓求學,在2010年拆除前,他以個人身份,向建築所有權單位取得正式使用權,執行了一件為期十個月的創作計劃。他研究了建築的結構和設計,拆卸所有的管線與裝潢,洗淨所有材料與建築內外空間,最後,所有物件被分類放回空間內,連同建築一起被拆毀,與之告別。在這件作品的創作過程中,除了藝術家自身的長時間勞動之外,他也組織了一個工作團隊來整合社區、調度資源並協調技術,最後讓這件作品同時帶有社會參與性質,但又是一個極為私密的行為儀式。

Dong-Dong-Guan is a historical building which mixed Bauhaus style and Chinese architecture elements located in the National Taiwan University. This building was design and built by Chang Chao-Kang, a student of Water Gropius, for the use of demonstrating American agricultural technology in the 60’s and educational space for the university. Before the building was demolished in 2010, the artist who was a former student studied in the building negotiated the right to use the building as an individual, execute a 10-months long art project. He studied the structure and design of the building, took off all its interior, cleansed the interior and the facade of the building. In the end, he categorized all the materials, put them back into the structure, and let them demolished along with the building. In this project, except artist’s long durational labor, he also organized a team to coordinate the neighborhood, arrange different resource and develop technique. In the end, this project became an art work carry a strong responsibility of social engagement, meanwhile an intimate personal ceremony.
